Breaking down HPE Drive Part Numbers

If you have been around servers or has worked with  enterprise grade servers before, it can be confusing to see all the all the part numbers and spare part numbers that that HPE uses to guide sales engineers and technicians properly identify and order the right replacement part.  But no worries,  in this short blog post, I will help you navigate with a clean example with SFF a 2.5 TB 10K SAS drive.

  • 1.HPE genuine sticker to validate the authenticity of the HPE hardware and protect your infrastructure from threat and ensure to performance. To learn more check, this link.
  • 2.This is the storage capacity and the type of drive. Here is a 1.2 TB 10K SAS. Want to know more about drive types. Click this link here
  • 3. HPE Model Number: This number can be used by HPE on different type of disks. This is the number you will see when accessing the server management portal
  • 4. This is the HPE part number for the drive only without the caddy. Here in the picture, we have the drive and the caddy assembled.
  • 5.This is part number or the manufacturer of the drive Seagate Technology LLC. It is good to know that HPE doesn't manufacture the drives itself, but rather goes through established companies like Seagate.
  • 6.This is the Serial number of the drive and it is unique
  • 7. This represent the drive Serial number from the manufacturer Seagate prior to installing the caddy and the firmware needed to be used by HPE servers.
  • 8.This is HPE part number pertaining to the drive without the firmware and the caddy as well
